I recently had “Sam Runco” in the QY-Growth Studio, Sam was born in1948, Throop-Pennsylvania; and, let me tell ya’ He is more than just “A Name” in the home theater technology, but also a public speaking visionary who reshaped home entertainment and sales teams!
From the 1950’s beginnings to becoming a Century Celebrated Inventor & entrepreneur, Runco’s journey is a great testament for Italian-American innovation and prodigy.

Early Life and Inspirations
Imagine growing up, as the son of a coal miner in Pennsylvania, grounded by example and inspired by pages of Popular Mechanics and Popular Science magazines. I found some pages of the magazines Sam Runco read online… and as an architect, I am able to see what sparked a lifelong passion in Sam’s heart for home theater technology.

When I interviewed Sam Runco I asked about the patents behind the home entertainment gadget that revolutionized the home theater technology being used at the time. This being also a cornerstone for the future of the film industry, High Definition Imagery coming out of an “reflective inverted beam”, his is a term I called it to better understand the technology behind it, don’t quote me on it.
The Birth of a Vision
In his early twenties, Runco’s experiment with a “Fresnel Lens” and a “15-inch” Television marked the beginning of his journey in projection technology. This simple yet groundbreaking moment set the stage for decades of innovation to come.

As home theater technology evolved, so did Runco’s innovations. The “Lens Shifting Apparatus” (Patent 6,755,540 and Patent Application 20040114115) represented a significant leap forward in projection technology.
Key Innovations:
- Horizontal lens shift mechanism
- Improved installation flexibility
- Enhanced image quality and alignment capabilities
The Lens Shifting Apparatus patent in 2004 seems to have solved a major installation challenge.
CineWide with AutoScope (2010)
Perhaps one of Runco’s most groundbreaking inventions, the “Constant Height Projection System with Auto-Calibration” (Patent 7,654,678), better known as CineWide with AutoScope, revolutionized how we experience widescreen content at home.
Key Features:
- Automated aspect ratio adjustment
- Constant image height across different aspect ratios
- Maximized screen usage without letterboxing
CineWide with AutoScope is often cited as a game-changer in home theater projection. It changed the home viewing experience.
